The role

Coming off the back of a successful 2019 which saw the the release of six new textbooks, we are heading into 2020 with plans to build new and exciting resources for schools across Australia. To help facilitate a range of new textbooks, we are looking for a senior designer with the experience to be able to come in and help shape what book design means at Edrolo. The main areas of responsibility will be ownership over all facets of design relating to our textbooks, the construction of a replicable design process unique to Edrolo’s printed products, and working with the design team to take your book designs from conception through to print.

As part of a production team you will collaborate closely through all stages of development with a large onsite team of junior designers, authors, and product managers to deliver textbooks that integrate with our digital resources. Core to this role you will be creating a series of prototypes that will be reviewed and refined into easily navigable and usable templates to be passed on to our design team for typesetting. Other core responsibilities include assisting with technical support and troubleshooting using InDesign, upholding & maintaining quality through our quality control processes, and assisting with prepress.

In addition, you would be responsible for growing & improving our design methodology, sharing and codifying your design knowledge over time, and working alongside junior designers to help train and upskill them in various aspects of design.

Required skills and experience:

  • Intimate knowledge of book design & conventions
  • Expert knowledge in Adobe InDesign CC
  • Knowledge of print requirements & prepress
  • A background in book design & publication, with a proven track record
  • A strong portfolio of publications work
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Very comfortable with computers and technology
  • Comfortable working under pressure and adhering to strict deadlines
  • Digital illustration experience using Adobe Illustrator CC is desirable, but not essential.
